Headshot Session: Gerri
Some sessions just feel a little more personal—and this was definitely one of them.
Gerri and I go all the way back to grammar school, so when she reached out about updating her headshots as she steps into modeling and acting, it felt like such a full-circle moment. Watching someone you’ve known for years grow into a new chapter of their life is always special—but getting to document it? Even more so.
Stepping Into a New Season
Gerri is in that exciting in-between space—where everything feels new, full of possibility, and just a little bit unknown.
She’s beginning her journey into modeling and acting, including fit modeling, and needed headshots that felt like her. Not overly serious. Not overly posed. Just natural, confident, and full of personality.
Because at the end of the day, that’s what great headshots are about.
They aren’t about perfection—they’re about connection.
Why Headshots Matter
Whether you’re stepping into modeling, acting, or simply updating your professional presence, your headshots are often the very first impression you make.
They should feel:
- Approachable
- Current
- Aligned with who you are
And most importantly—they should feel real.
That’s always my goal during a session. Not to create a version of you that feels unfamiliar, but to capture the version of you that already exists… just maybe with a little guidance and good light.
Gerri’s Energy
If you’ve ever met Gerri, you know—she brings the energy.
She’s fun, she’s expressive, and she doesn’t take herself too seriously in the best way. From the moment she walked into the studio, it felt easy. There was laughter, a little bit of goofiness, and so many of those in-between moments that end up being my favorites.
Those are the moments I’m always looking for.
Because you don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to have experience in front of a camera.
As I always remind my clients (and share in my prep guides ), your only job is to show up, be yourself, and let me take care of the rest.
Inside the Studio
We kept Gerri’s session simple and focused.
Clean backdrops. A few outfit changes for variety. And space to just move, laugh, and settle into the experience.
For headshot sessions, I typically recommend bringing 2–3 outfits to give you a range of looks while still keeping everything cohesive . Gerri did exactly that, which allowed us to create images that felt versatile but still completely aligned with her.
Instead of over-directing, I guided her gently—small adjustments, natural movement, and letting her personality lead.
Because the best images don’t come from forcing something.
They come from allowing.
My Approach to Headshots
No matter who I’m photographing, my approach stays the same:
I’m not here to fix anything.
I’m here to show you what’s already there.
That means creating a space where:
- You don’t have to feel “on” the whole time
- Nerves are completely normal
- You’re guided, but never overly posed
- Your personality is what leads the session
Because the truth is, the photos you’ll love the most are the ones where you recognize yourself in them.
A Session That Felt Like Catching Up
One of my favorite parts of this session was how much it felt like just catching up with an old friend.
Yes, we were creating headshots.
Yes, we were being intentional.
But it also felt relaxed, familiar, and genuinely fun.
And I think that’s what made the images come to life in such a natural way.
Thinking About Your Own Headshot Session?
If you’ve been putting off updating your headshots because you’re nervous, unsure, or waiting for the “right time,” I want you to know—you don’t have to have it all figured out first.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to feel 100% confident walking in.
That’s part of the process.
My job is to guide you, create a space that feels easy, and help you walk away with images that feel like you—on your best day, in the most natural way.
Gerri’s session was such a reminder of why I love this work.
It’s not just about the photos—it’s about the experience.
The laughter.
The ease.
The moments where someone starts to relax and just be.
And somewhere in there, they see themselves a little differently—in the best possible way.
If you’re ready for a headshot session that feels relaxed, natural, and completely true to you, I’d love to work together.
